I want to upgrade my hard drive to a larger one, how do I clone my original drive to the new Sata hard drive?
Cloning the hard drive is a real easy way to move everything over to a new hard drive that way you wont need to install the operating system and all your other programs and files which can be a real time saver.
It’s always a good idea to back up your important files, pictures, documents and stuff you don’t want to lose just in case something goes wrong.
If you haven’t already bought a new hard drive get one that comes with cloning software, some hard drives come with this included to help moving data from the old to the new.
Here are a few popular drive cloning programs:
- Drive Snapshot – free trial version available, here’s the tutorial on how to restore the disk image on to another drive the same size or larger.
- Norton Ghost
- Acronis True Image – there’s a 15 day trial version.
- HDClone – the free version is slower than the premium ones but does the job.
