“Can I play my Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One? Is the Xbox One backwards compatible?”
The new Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 game discs. This will also include anything you’ve downloaded from Xbox Live Arcade. Games designed for the Xbox 360 will have to be rebuilt for the Xbox One because of the different core architecture.

That is so awesome. You plug the HDMI cord from the Xbox 360 into the Xbox One’s HDMI-IN port (instead of doing that with a cable box), and then you can play your Xbox 360 games while on the Xbox One system with it’s whole interface and overlay.
That is AWESOME in my opinion and makes up for their not being BC for me. I’m happy I can continue to play Xbox 360’s current and future games but still feel the newness of the new look and hardware.

Idk its way to much but I have 35 games and 125 arcade games for xbox 360 and I’m Gona be pissed if I can’t play em on xbox one but by the end of February 2014 there going to stop makeing xbox 360 games and ps3 and only make games for the newer gens ps4 xbox one and wiiU and PC
I would have to agree with Firon and James. I think that you should be able to put an Xbox 360 game disc or download an Xbox 360 arcade game but have to update each game to fit the Xbox One. I think it is stupid to have to re-buy arcade games and have to let go of old Xbox 360 games that are great. I hope my opinion help, and I want to here other people’s thoughts on NO XBOX 360 GAMES ON XBOX ONE.

i agree with firion. there should be a way that no matter what you can easily play the 360 games on the xbox 1. if the xbox 1 is suppose to be advanced then it should be advnaced enough to play older games and still have all the new features. and the price is ridiculous, only rich ppl will think tbhat price is fine, plus apperantly the concole is all sold out cuz of ppl pre ordering it. might as well wait till its cheaper and there are consoles to get. later down the road they will probably make an xbox 2 anyways

I wouldn’t spend $600 on a system that is not backwards compatible after spending 1000s of dollars on xbox 360 games because xbox 360 only played certain xbox games backwards compatible is a deal breaker for me but i heard that PS4 is also not backwards compatible which from both of them is just a way to force you to buy more games that will be useless when the next gen comes out sorry but i work too hard for my money i think i will stick to pc gaming no worries about backwards compatibility.
@Brian, I think it would actually make it an Xbox 361, not an Xbox 2.

It’s a deal breaker for me. I have games that are less than 3 months old that I’m not going to just discard like yesterday’s trash. As long as my 360 still functions I’ll stick with it, rather than start all over again from scratch. No thanks! I’ll pass
Guys, quit grousing – your Xbox 360 hasn’t stopped working. The core architecture differences between the Xbox 360 (PowerPC) and the Xbox One (Intel) are too dissimilar for there to be a way to provide compatibility between the two systems.
Believe those of us who do this stuff for a living – you’d be spending $1,500 for the system as it would need to have the complete Xbox 360 internals built inside for this to work properly.
And no, an emulation layer like Apple’s “Rosetta” would not work for these types of games.
I agree that its kind of lame, esp since my dumb ass just bought Black Flag and Arkham City for 360, thinking it would be BC and nit double checking. However, you are all troll ass haters. Do u not remember the 360 being $400 7 years ago? Same relative price now with inflation. Besides, the games for the One are going to b so next level u will fire up the 360 out of nostalgia 8 months from now and be like “WTF is this? How did I ever play this?” And if u do just have to play the 360 then hook it up to the HDMI port on the TV that is now free because your cable runs through your console!!!! Or leave your cable straight thru to the tv and link your 360 to the One. Its not a major deal. way to much money already spent on xbox 360 games to just go get the new xbox one. I like that they keep making systems better but need to be able to play older games, controllers etc .

the xbox one is the only console to the market with an hdmi-in port and according to Larry you can plug your xbox 360 into your xbox one and presumably then play xbox 360 titles
That’s BS after all the money we’ve spent they expect us to toss the 360 and start over. The people that want the full Halo experience won’t get it unless they crowd themselves with 3 consoles around the tv. Halo CE was on the original xbox right along with 2. Then they made the 360 and made Halo 3, Wars, Reach, and 4. Now they’re making another Halo for the Xbox One. Big BS.

Ps3 Did it with almost all of their Ps2 Games, yet you guys could only do 300 from the original Xbox? Give me a break. Im not wasting my hard-earned money on a Fancy-ass system thats probably going to go through more problems in the first year than the PS4. So I think I’ll just keep my system, save a 100 bucks, get a PS4, and play games on a console that won’t given worry about what I games could be playing backwards comparability. I don’t care how wealthy or less fortunate you are…I personally think that it’s a waste of money to buy the XboxOne when you can’t play the 360 games. If I’m going to pay $500 dollars for this new system can there at least be an update so that I can play my older games as well? I love my xbox, but I’m on the brink of switching
I think everyone has to face facts! Microsoft sold over 1 million Xbox One Consoles in the first day along! I have not had a game console for more then 10 years. I think having just a game console is a waste! If I am going to pay $500.00 or more dollars for a game console. I want it to do more then just play games. This is not just a game console, its a PC-phone-internet browser-and DVR all in one. When you can have your phone and tablet integrate seamlessly in the next 1 or 2 years. This will be one of the hottest products to own. You have to face facts!!! Microsoft has made great strides, Windows 8-Windows 8 phone and Xbox One are going to be very hard to beat in the long run, in 2001 one they said Xbox will never make it. Now they have 40% of the market share. In 2012 the game console sales dropped 21%! The number one reason! The did not do more than play games!! People want more than just a game console. Microsoft has done just that!
The bottom line is that no one is happy about the xbox one not being able to play 360 games. Microsoft is just trying to get you for every penny, not getting my money.

Trade in your Xbox 360 games now and just get a credit on your gamestop powerup rewards card. Trade in Xbox 360 games and get the Xbox one games same day. You won’t get full value but you will get something for the trade ins. I traded a bunch of old 360 games I didn’t want to play anymore and got the Xbox One games I really liked and only paid about $12 because my trade in value added up to the cost of a few new games. I was even able to trade a few scratched ones with the right sales person. You can trade the 360 console to for credit or just save it for the wonderful future….may be worth something in 20 years as gaming evolves

in my house i have both hooked up to a 32 inch tv.a hdmi switch runs my ps3 xbox 1 and 360….so it aint no thang:)
So the 360 games can’t work on Xbox one but all games on it will be better in future my 360 broke and now I can’t play Halo,COD,battlefield or any other games Xbox one might be good it might not I don’t care really I just want to play
@game trader they don’t have the good games for Xbox one, like gta 5, I bought gta 5 for 360, and the purchase card, hoping I could either play it on Xbox one or download it. When they get more games for one and ps4, it will be much better. I also wish that The games I downloaded on the Xbox 360 could download to Xbox one. They should have released it with more games to choose from.

I agree with Jake it is stupid that you can’t play games. I just bought Madden & NHL 15 both Ultimate Teams. When my son went to play them he had a meltdown because they were basically the same as 14. I realize now that the better graphics & newer features that he saw on the videos were for the Xbox one. With 360 you could play Xbox games, I wish they did the same for the one!! I have over 30 games which are not even out for the one. I could never sell or trade these games & buy all new ones for the Xbox one. But I know that Microsoft doesn’t care about the people that barely make paycheck to paycheck all they care about is making money!

I loved xbox…then I had to get the 360 because that was the only way to play elder scrolls….now if I want to keep playing then I have to go to Xbox 1 this is not right I’m bed ridden and my only entertainment comes from my 360 …..I’m not crying here but let’s get real not everyone can move on to the bigger and better here…..the five they want for the console alone covers half my meds…that’s why I wait to get any games until they hit the used rack at gamestop…how about giving us a break here…..
Why make a new console that is not compatible with your own products? People aren’t going to spend the money on xbox one when there are only limited games right now, even in the future when there are games people will go back to 360 to play their favorite game from years ago. So in all honesty this is stupid that it is not Backwards compatible but what do you expect from microsoft? They’re not apple, the actually change their products to get more people to buy them..
