Yes the PS4 will playback DVD movies. If you’re picking up the launch PS4 you’ll need to do the day-one software update to version 1.50. After updating the PS4 software you’ll also need to activate your Blu-ray Disc video capability (online connection required).
After doing those two things described your PS4 will be able to playback DVD’s and Blu-ray movies.
* PS4s with newer firmware (1.50 or higher) may be able to play Blu-ray and DVDs without updating.
I burned a movie I downloaded off of a Torrent site – put the burned movie into my PS3 and it plays the movie just fine. I took the movie out of my PS3 and inserted into my PS4 and there was a message that popped up saying “unsupported disc” and it wont play the movie. Way to go Playstation~!!! You sure hit a home-run~!!! First off, none of the games that launched with the PS4 had any better graphics than the “average” PS3 game – The only thing Ive seen from Shadow Fall is that I can use the extra moves of the little flying robot. I certainly hope games coming out in the Spring are better than these that came out on launch day.~!!!
