I’m thinking about buying a Blu-Ray player, will it play regular DVD’s? If it can play DVD’s will it be HD quality.
Yes, all Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible with DVD’s. Most models will even “up convert” those regular DVD’s to 1080i. A Blu-Ray player can make your DVD look like HD by up converting the video although it will not be true high definition it will still look better than playing it back on a standard DVD player.

Two thumbs up on th PS3 as the best Blu-Ray player on the market: Firmware upgrade support and the latest update provides outstanding DVD Upconversion. I’m not sure most people realize the current generation of stand alone Blu-Ray players are severely limited because there is no way to upgrade their firmware. . .
I have converted VHS tapes to DVD-R via Sony Compact Disc player – I tried to play this on the Samsung Blu-Ray player and they won’t play even though the DVD-R will play ok on the DVD player. Any ides or help on this will be appreciated.

You need to convert video to .VOB format and even some free software such as ‘Freemake Video Converter’ and this program also converts to and from many formats and it is quick compared to some
