I’m thinking about buying a Blu-Ray player, will it play regular DVD’s? If it can play DVD’s will it be HD quality.
Yes, all Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible with DVD’s. Most models will even “up convert” those regular DVD’s to 1080i. A Blu-Ray player can make your DVD look like HD by up converting the video although it will not be true high definition it will still look better than playing it back on a standard DVD player.
The PS3 is probably the best Blu-Ray player out there right now (and the cheapest) because it’s got network connectivity which allows you to upgrade the Blu-Ray firmware for more enhanced features, and it can also up convert those regular DVD’s for better quality picture. Did you know it can also play video games?

Two thumbs up on th PS3 as the best Blu-Ray player on the market: Firmware upgrade support and the latest update provides outstanding DVD Upconversion. I’m not sure most people realize the current generation of stand alone Blu-Ray players are severely limited because there is no way to upgrade their firmware. . .

I have converted VHS tapes to DVD-R via Sony Compact Disc player – I tried to play this on the Samsung Blu-Ray player and they won’t play even though the DVD-R will play ok on the DVD player. Any ides or help on this will be appreciated.
