Nero is probably one the most popular CD/DVD burning tool available today, if you don’t already have Nero download the free trial version of Nero. I’m using Nero 8 Ultra Edition for this AVI to DVD guide but it will be pretty similar with earlier versions.
Open Nero StartSmart, click on “Create and Edit” tab from the menu on top and select “Author, Edit, and Capture Video.
Now you should have Nero Vision 5 open.
Click on “Make DVD” and select DVD-Video.
We can now add our avi video into the project pane either by clicking on “Add Video Files…” on the right hand menu or simply by click and dragging a video into the main window.
To add chapters click on “Create Chapters…” you can manually add movie chapters or have Nero automatically add the chapters on the DVD for you. If you choose to let Nero automatically add chapters it will scan the movie and insert the chapters.
Click on “More” at the bottom for Configure, Video and other options I’m just gonna leave everything on default for this one.
Click “Next” when finished.
Now you can customize your menu by selecting a template and choosing different colors. Click “Next” when finished.
The next screen gives you a bit of a preview of what your DVD will look like. This is pretty neat cause you can actually play with the interface and watch the movie in this preview. Click “Next” when you’re done with the preview and happy with the results if you want to make changes click the “Back” button.
The next screen is the Burn Options, including many details. Click “Burn” to burn the avi movie to DVD. Nero will now begin transcoding the avi to DVD format which will be burn onto a blank DVD. This could take some time usually about an hour or less depending on the power of you computer. Oh don’t forget to put a blank DVD disc in the drive. That’s pretty much all there is to it, enjoy.
