“Someone in the family has passed away, how do I get access to their Gmail account?”
If you’re the next of kin you can make a request to Google to to gain access or have the Gmail account deleted. You’ll need to give Google some information before you get access to the deceased account.
Fax or Mail the following information to Google:
- Your full name as next of Kin
- The deceased Gmail account you want to close.
- You will also need a email sent from the deceased persons email address that was sent to you. Google wants the full header along with the entire content of the email.
- Proof of death
- Documentation to prove that you are the lawfully allowed to access their email (if the deceased is over 18). If deceased person is under 18 of age, you must provide a birth certificate.
When Google gets all that verified (30 days) you will get access to the account.
