I’m trying to play my old PS2 games on my PS3 but when I put the game in its says “Unsupported Disk”. I thought PS3′s were able to play old PS2 games, do I need some type of software or update?
Only certain PS3 models are backwards compatible to play PS2 games you most likely have one that isn’t compatible.
Here are the PS3 models that are compatible with PS2 games:
- 20GB and 60GB PLAYSTATION®3 – these were the first PS3′s to hit the shelves and are no longer being made.
- 80GB PLAYSTATION®3 Model CECHE01 – the newer 80GB models are not compatible with PS2 games, but the older CECHE01 models can. It should say somewhere on the box if it’s compatible or not.

Thanks for the info on PS2 games on the PS3. I currently use the xbox 360 and was thinking of buying the PS3 slim 120gb to, among other things, play my old legacy of kain and god of war PS2 games. I now know not to waste my money.

This sucks ass then what in the hell am i supposed to do with all these damn ps2 games i spent my money on ??? trade theme in for one third of the price i bought them for in the first place??? i have lost all respect for sony because now i have over 500 dollars worth of games that i cant do anything with. then most of the good games that are out are on x-box halo, grand theft auto ballod of gay tony how is sony letting x-box take over u guys have more money and its like u guys are just giving up.
My PS3 wont let me play a PS2 or PS1 multiplayer game with more than 2 people! Why is this? Do I need some special PS3 multitap or something? Please Help!

For PS2 games, why not buy a PS2 off of ebay. I’m sure you can find them for a really low price. Cheers!

Sony the turd burgler, how can titles that were exclusively for the PlayStation be on the Xbox 360 ? And the part that makes me mad as hell is that many game series are not even available on the PS3 anymore ; But the 360 now has them. Hence the game Ace Combat 6 “Fires of Liberation…”!!! this series is my all time favorite game since way back when the PS1 came out. The Ace Combat game series was in fact my reason for purchasing all 3 Play Station consoles ; so now this game is exclusively for the Xbox 360 and it seems that it will be my new console of choice. I guess that stinky smelly Sony is being ran into the ground by their lackadaisical business people that are not in touch with the consumer and their needs.
if i worked for Sony in the Playstation department then i would have locked in many game companies into a long term contract. I would have them keep the PS games exclusive in order to boost sales by enticing old and new customers ; also to prevent loyal customers from wanting to purchase an Xbox 360 console; here’s a few titles…

Resident Evil
Of course Rock Star’s Grand Theft Auto
and many other money makers ….
and 1 more idea that would entice the consumer would be if you offered exclusively for the PS3 alot more extra game play on the games available for both consoles… the BLUE RAY can hold far more game data so whay aren’t you using this awesome technology to your advantage . So have the game creators make the Playstation 3 version of the game twice as big as the XBOX 360 version. what is wrong with you?
Oh Sony, you will not be receiving anymore money from my household on anymore PS3 gear. And i hope that the Xbox’s console and games exceed Sony’s PS3 sales by leaps and bounds ; i also hope that you get pooped on by many large birds flying above your empty heads as well as all your former loyal customers because most of us feel like you took a major hot steamy dump on us. But remember this Sony : If it smells like shite then it is indeed shite .
