The serial number comes in handy when you need to register your Kindle Fire.
How to find the Kindle Fire serial number:
1. Tap the ‘Quick Settings’ icon.
2. Now tap ‘More’.
3. Then tap ‘Device’, you should now see your 16-digit serial number for the Kindle Fire.

If you have the Fire HD you can find your serial number by ..
1) Log in your Amazon Account via the Kindle or you can: lauch through the web .. amazon.com/manageyourkindle
2) On left of screen select “Manage Your Devices”
3) You should then see your Fire HD AND the serial number
Took me 45 minutes so I can understand the frustration! God Bless!!
