Setting up PSP internet
March 12, 2008
Setting up the PSP for the internet takes a few steps but once all the settings are in place you can easily start surfing the web or check your emails online using the PSP.
The first thing you need before setting up the PSP for the internet is a wireless router. Routers are used to share a single internet connection with multiple computers, a wireless router allows laptops or other network capable devices to connect online without wires. Wireless routers are fairly cheap, about 50 bucks for a wireless G router.
If you do not have a wireless router then you could “borrow” your neighbors wireless connection. Unless you have a really good connection to your neighbors wireless access browsing the internet can be painfully slow, you’re better off spending a few bucks for a wireless router. Now let’s set up the Psp for the internet.
Setting up Psp Internet:
- Before we begin setting up the PSP for the internet make sure the “WIFI” is on. That’s the switch on the left of the PSP next to the memory card slot, the switch needs to be upwards.
- Scroll all the way left in the Menu to “Settings” and scroll all the way down to “Network Settings” and hit the “X” button
- Select “Infrastructure Mode” and the hit “X” button
- Start a “New Connection” by hitting “X”
- Now you are in the WLAN Settings, you have a number of different options here. Use the “Scan” for scanning any available wireless access points such as your neighbors or your own access point. We will use this option here.
- With “Scan” highlighted press the control pad to the right to begin scanning.
- When scanning is complete you will see a list of available wireless access points, the higher the signal strength the better.
- Select the connection you want to use and press “X”, if you are using someone else’s connection than you will need to find one that isn’t password protected (unless you happen to know their password), it will have “None” under the security column.
- Now the SSID will appear, press “right” on the pad.
- Now we are in the WLAN Security Setting, choose the one that matches the connection you’ve selected, and press “right” again. If you picked one the is password protected enter the password here.
- In the Address Settings, just choose “Easy” and press “right.
- Enter a name for the connection or just leave it as is and press “right” to proceed.
- Now it will give a recap of all the settings, continue on by going “right”.
- Finally last step. Save the settings by pressing “X”, with the settings saved we can now test the connection. Hopefully all went well and the PSP connected. Now that we have our PSP set up for the internet we can go to Network ->Internet Browser to get online.
