iPod won’t sync to iTunes

September 15, 2008

A few days ago I had no problem with my iPod syncing to iTunes. I would connect the iPod to my computer as usual and it would appear under devices. But now my iPod won’t sync to iTunes, I tried updating iTunes and even different usb ports but my iPod still will not sync, help me please.

Try reseting your iPod. press and hold the center button and the top menu button for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. This may take several tries.

Other things to try:

1.The iPod battery might need to be recharged.

2.Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPod to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard)

3.Restart your computer and reconnect iPod to your computer.

4.Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes.

These directions worked. First the re-boot, then add the new version of ITunes and finally shut down PC and restart. Thanks for the help!!

Re-Installed latest version, and rebooted several, several times. Followed all the instructions and it STILL won’t sync.

I’m scared to try anything else, because my backup files have been destroyed thanks to Sharepod. I’m scared to lose my music/video files.

I really don’t know what else to do.

I have iTunes version 10. I plug my ipod into my computer to synch but it will not do my playlists. For example, if I check all the songs by Led Zeppelin it will load them but will not load the playlist of Led Zeppelin that I’ve made. Why?

If songs aren’t syncing but everything else is….make sure the songs are “checked” otherwise they will not sync if you have the “sync only checked songs and videos” button clicked. Good luck!

Nothing worked….. God this makes me and I’m sure other people really frustrated! Seriously, does someone know another option??? and it’s weird that you can’t restore your complete ipod. I have a ipod nano (4th generation) and only the settings get restored but it’s not that all of my songs get ditched. I’m scared that I have a virus or something… HELP

Tanya December 18, 2010 at 6:25 pm

iTunes wasn’t completely recognizing that my iTouch was plugged into my computer. It was showing it was charging, but it was recognizing it as a device. Turned out I had a bad USB, luckily I had another one. This fixed the problem for me!

Rad December 26, 2010 at 1:33 pm

My iPod still won’t work. I have a iPod Nano 16GB 6th Generation and it only worked on the first sync. The second time I plugged it in it said the iPod was corrupt and it needed to be reformatted, and after I pressed OK the iPod never even turned on again. I have windows Vista on my computer, but I don’t think that matters.

Jamie December 27, 2010 at 12:16 am

Ok so I did all this but u see my iPod touch 4 g works and all but when I plug it into my computer iTunes freezes or if it doesn’t freeze then the sync iPod button is gray and I can’t click it can someone please help

Jennifer December 27, 2010 at 9:54 pm

I tried this over and over and nothing happened. I have a click-wheel iPod & got a new iPod touch for Christmas so I had to update iTunes for the new iPod. They both plug in and work on my laptop and now they don’t work at all. I tried to contact iTunes but they wanted me to sit on hold for 15 minutes and then pay them to tell me what’s wrong with the +$300 device I bought from them.

The Mikester December 28, 2010 at 10:52 am

Hey here is the answer, and it’s a lot more simple. go to start. type ‘services’ click the top one under ‘programs’. Click on the ‘Apple Mobile Device Service’. Click ‘Stop the Service’. then start it again. now it should sync. (i have an ipod touch g4 so good luck)

andrew December 30, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Scroll down in itunes on the page where you sync scroll down to Options and check the box for Manually Manage Music and Videos. This may seem scary when it tells you that this will erase your ipod and sync it with your itunes but this is prob what you want. your ipod may have been connected to a different/older itunes library for some odd reason. this worked for me.

aileen January 4, 2011 at 11:31 am

i did all that and still nothing! i don’t know what else to do! i accidentally erased all the songs on my iPod and now it won’t sync. it has no music or pictures and i don’t know what else to do!

Kate January 5, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Please can somebody help me.I bought a used 80 ipod classic.Sometimes i can synch sometimes i cant.Sometimes it will synch 100 songs more than other times.Im a grown man and its practicaly brought me to tears with frustration.I have about 400 songs downloaded and only 85 will synch.I seem to follow all the directions correctly with no luck.I bought it at a trading post so i cant return it.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

beagle January 13, 2011 at 9:52 am

I am willing to pay somebody to fix my issue

Julie February 1, 2011 at 2:01 pm

Make sure the “manually manage music” box is NOT checked. Unchecking it will display a prompt similar to “Are you sure you want to, blah blah.” Hit yes, or accept, then it will tell you that it is syncing. Good luck!

adam February 5, 2011 at 11:35 pm

ok so i have the iPod nano 1GB and when i plug it into my computer it connects kinda, itunes pops up and everything but it keeps saying on the ipod “do not disconnect” and its not updateing the number of times iv listened to songs and stuff and if i bought another song i dont think it would actually put it on the ipod and i dont wanna lose all my songs that i have on my ipod because alot of them are from cds and from itunes.
what do i do?!?!

Criss February 24, 2011 at 3:08 pm

The problem I’m having is with syncing my itunes. I had to restore my ipod, and now, even though I have over 9,100 songs on my itunes, only about 90 songs are syncing to my ipod. I have no idea why it’s doing this or how to fix it. Please help!

rEi February 27, 2011 at 5:56 am

Rambo March 23, 2011 at 12:17 pm

How would I do this with an iPod touch? It says its syncing but then it doesn’t.
