iPod touch does not show up in iTunes

September 2, 2010

“Why won’t my iPod touch show up on my Itunes as a device? I plug my iPod into my computer, but it doesn’t even appear up on the screen as a device. My iPhoto opens up, but my iPod doesn’t show up on my iTunes.”

There could a number of different reasons to why iTunes does not recognize your iPod touch. Here are some general tips:

  • Verify system requirements – USB 2.0 port, latest version of iTunes installed
  • Recharge iPod touch – low iPod touch battery causes issues with iTunes. Use a high-power USB ports like the ones in your computer.
  • Check USB connections – try different usb ports.
  • Restart iPod touch and or Reset iPod touch
  • Restart your computer – Restart your computer and reconnect iPod touch.
  • Reinstall iTunes
  • Third-party software conflicts – some security software might be the cause. You may need to update or temporally disable security software and anti-virus software.
