How to view nfo files from torrents

December 1, 2008

“I downloaded a video from some torrent site and in the folder is a .nfo file. What is a .nfo and how do I open this file?”

Almost all videos downloaded from torrent sites will contain a .nfo file or .txt. It usually contains information about who or which group ripped the video and how it was ripped, resolution of the video and the format type. It could also have general information about the file as well such as cast and crew information.

You can use Notepad which comes with all Windows machine to view NFO files. Right click on the .nfo file and choose to open it with Notepad. You can also right click on the NFO file and select “Properties” and choose to open it with Notepad. Any kind of text editors will also be able to view NFO files.

There are also third party programs such as GetDiz which can make viewing nfo files easy and more enjoyable.
