How to use Daemon Tools to open ISO

November 23, 2007

Yesterday I talked a little bit about how to open ISO files today I will show you how to mount an ISO file using Daemon Tools which is a free program. Please remember to uncheck the “Daemons Tools Search Bar” when installing the program for the first time, you do not want that adware garbage. Get the latest version here.

After installing Daemon Tools, open the program and you should see a little icon with a red lightning bolt on your system tray.
mount with daemon tools

  • Right click on that icon and go to “Virtual CD/DVD-ROM”
  • This step may not be necessary because it should be set by default. Go to “Set number of devices” and set it to “1″, you have created your virtual drive. The program will give the virtual drive it’s own drive letter mine happens to “Drive E”
  • So now we can mount our ISO, right click on the icon again and go to Virtual CD/DVD-ROM > Device 0: > Mount image
  • All you have to do now is browse for the iso image and click “Open” now your iso file should be opened

*Update* Check out this quick video tutorial on using Daemon Tools.

I mounted my file successfully but after it mounted it automatically launches a window that does a “something(im not on the same computer so i forget the actual word) initialization” and that doesnt completely finish and an error box pops up saying “the system cannot open the device or file specified” so i googled that error and it told me to go to my Temp folder and check the Encryption box, so I went there and it was the only box that was grayed out.
