How to remove Norton

November 20, 2007

Norton Anti virus has got a bad reputation over the years for slowing down people’s computers, although I have heard some good things about the Norton AntiVirus 2008 version. I personally do not like paying annual subscription fees for anti-virus. Check out my guide on how to protect your PC for free.

So you’ve decided to get use another anti-virus program and want to remove Norton AntiVirus off your computer. Or maybe your current Norton is damaged or not installing properly whatever your reason may be we will uninstall Norton.

Usually a normal uninstall will work, do that by going to:

  • Start
  • Control Panel
  • Add Remove Programs or Program - Uninstall a Program (in Vista)
  • Look for Symantec or Norton and click on it
  • Now hit “Remove”
  • After a reboot it should be gone (hopefully)

Sometimes Norton does not completely remove itself or leave traces behind if this is the case Symantec has a Norton Removal Tool for download. Download the removal tool and run it and restart your computer.
