How to remove AVG Free Antivirus

I did a tutorial on how to uninstall Norton yesterday so today we will look at how to uninstall another popular anti-virus, AVG free home edition.

Sometimes you have to remove AVG Anti-Virus because it is not operating properly such as updating problems, or maybe it wont open at all and needs to be reinstalled. Whatever your reason may be for removing AVG I have some steps below to follow.

Doing a regular uninstall should remove AVG:

Start
Control Panel
Got to Add/Remove Programs or Programs > then to Uninstall a program for Vista users
Look for AVG and click on it to highlight it
Hit “Remove” and follow the instructions to uninstall AVG

If for some reason AVG uninstall failed using the normal method above, here is also another option for removing the pesky anti-virus.

Download the Avg installer here
When the download finishes click on the .exe file to run it
A Welcome box appears click “Next” and accept the user agreement
Now it will scan your computer and check the status of AVG
When it finishes scanning you should get options to “Add or Remove Components”, “Repair Installation”, and “Uninstall Product”

I had the same problem with AVG 9 install complaining about an old AVG 7.5. Tried removing 7.5 with AVG remover, Revo + a manual reg clean, but no success.

I then tried an AVG 8.5 installation package and it installed without problems.
After that i installed AVG 9 and this time it didn’t complain about neither 7.5 nor 8.5 versions being already installed.

Try it !
It might work with the latest version too
Jonathan November 29, 2010 at 7:14 pm: Ok plz help, i installed avg 10.0, and soon after my afd driver broke (cannot connect to internet now) and I cant system restore it because avg wont let it, how do i get rid of avg, I cant get the remover online and the change/remove hardware option does not work, so im out of options plz help. I bought this comp used so i have no recovery disk =(

Using the installer didn’t work either!!!
Joe August 27, 2011 at 7:01 pm: This AVG anti-virus sftware is a complete menace and ought to be banned. For the past 2 weeks I ‘ve been trying to rid my PC of it but to no avail. I tried most of the suggested means already, may be once more trial may do the trick.
