How to download youtube videos
October 7, 2007
Youtube videos are in flash format (.flv), so you can’t just right click and ’save as’ to download videos from youtube. However there are number of sites that can capture the video for you and save it on your hard drive, vixy.net and keepvid.com are pretty good, how it works is you paste the youtube video url in their site and it processes it online and sends it to you.
If you use Firefox as your browser (which you should be) there are a couple of plugins for downloading youtube videos and other popular video sites VideoDownloader and DownloadHelper.
After you have the .flv file on your computer you can than convert it to a different file format or just play it on your computer with a media player that can play .flv files VLC Player is my choice for playing back media files and it supports youtube videos.
