Disk Defragmenter is a program built into Windows Operating system to help improve performance. Hard drives running Windows can get fragmented over time which basically means bits of information is scattered all across the hard drive making it harder to find information. By giving your hard drive a good defragging the hard drive doesn’t need to work as hard and you may even notice some speed difference.
1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. In the search bar type in “disk defragmenter” and click on the program link to open it.
3. Click on “Defragment disk” button near the bottom.
4. The program will begin analyzing your hard drive and begin defraging.
After the upgrade to Vista, I stopped using the built in defragger and opted for one of the completely automatic programs which also has a graphic visual display. Its easier to use and also much faster.
