How to Create Keyboard Shortcuts in Windows 7

July 24, 2009

“Is there a way to create your own keyboard shortcuts for programs in Windows 7?”

There sure is, here’s how to make your own hot keys:

1. Right click on a program icon on your desktop or from the Start menu or wherever your program happens to be. Doesn’t really matter what really matters is that your “right click” the thing. Then scroll down to “Properties” and select it.

Right click a program

2. With the Property box open we can now assign our program a shortcut. As far as I know you can only assign a shortcut key with the “CTRL + ALT” key attached to it. Click on the “Shortcut_Key” box and start pressing a random key and they will most likely be combined with “CTRL + ALT”. Assign a letter or number to create your keyboard shortcut. Press “OK” to finish the job.
