Most of us know how to use “msconfig” to remove programs from startup. In Vista there is a better way using Windows Defender to edit startup programs giving you faster boot up times.
Start by opening up Windows Defender, the fastest way to do that is by going to “Start” and in the search field begin typing in “defender”. Double click on “Windows Defender” at the top.
At the top menu bar select “Tools” and under Tools select “Software Explorer”.
- Select “Startup Programs” from the Category button
- If you have multiple users you may need to select “Show for all users” or else Defenders will not give you the option to “Remove” or “Disable”
- Now we can begin removing startup programs, on the left side click on the program you would like to disable from startup, and as you do that the right side will give you more information about the program.
- Now click on “Disable” or “Remove” a confirmation message will appear click “OK”
