Creating a desktop shutdown shortcut icon

November 6, 2007

Are you lazy like me and hate shutting down the computer through the start menu? If you answered yes then this is your luck day. Today we are going to create a shortcut icon on the Windows Vista desktop. This will save precious seconds of your valuable time and it’s pretty darn easy to do. Lets begin:

First right click any where on your desktop. Scroll down to “New” click on “Shortcut”

Create Shutdown Icon

Vista users -copy and paste this code in without the quotes “Shutdown.exe -s -t 00″ Xp users copy and paste this code “shutdown.exe -s -t 0″

Create shutdown icon

You can now name your new shutdown button to whatever you want or just keep as is. Click “Finish”

You have just created a shortcut to shutdown your computer.

I like to personalize my new shutdown icon so let’s right click on the shutdown icon and select “Properties” and at the bottom of the “Shortcut” tab select “Change Icon” button. Select from a number of different default Windows icons here is my personal favorite.
