Buy cheap hdmi cables dont be a sucker

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

One of the things that really gets me annoyed is the ridiculous prices the big retailers charge for cables, and with hdmi cables being the latest and greatest, places like Bestbuy are going to push you towards the overly priced Monster Hdmi cables for your new home entertainment system. And of coarse the general public who are not very tech savvy we be lead to believe that the 100 dollars hdmi cable is a must for the best hd television experience. These big box stores mark up the price so much it’s disgusting and people still buy them. There really is no reason for buying expensive hdmi cables unless your name happens to be “Donald Trump” or maybe you just like to flush money down the toilet. Hdmi is digital it either works or it doesn’t.

What is Blu-Ray

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Blu-Ray (not Blue-Ray) disc is the next generation disc format for storing digital files and high definition videos. The name Blu-Ray comes from the blue laser that is used to read and write the discs. The laser used for Blu-Ray has a shorter wavelength than the ones used for regular DVD’s so a lot more data can be stored in a single Blu-Ray disc. Single layer Blu-ray disc can hold up to 25 gigabytes and a dual layer can hold 50 gigabytes. To compare, a standard dvd can hold 4.7 gigabyte and the dual layer dvd can store up to 8.5 gb.

What is HDMI?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface it is the “latest and greatest” interface for your visual and audio equipment. New home theater equipment and high-definition televisions will have HDMI connections. There are 19 to 29 wires tightly wrapped in a one cable that looks kinda like a USB wire, HDMI can handle bandwidth of up to 5 gigibits per second, which is more than enough bandwidth for audio and video. This is just one of many reasons why HDMI is more favorable than other audio video interfaces such as S-Video, composite, and component video.
