Block adult sites with OpenDNS Parental Controls

January 30, 2010

“I see where you tell kids how to unblock the filter – but – how do we (the parents) stop our kids from unblocking our home filters? My son has accessed inappropriate sexual and porn sites and he is only 13! Please – you helped him get around my security – help me keep him in sites that are appropriate for his age.”

One of the best ways to block adult content is by using OpenDNS. OpenDNS replaces your Internet Service Provider’s DNS service with theirs (OpenDNS). DNS is like a phonebook, it translates a bunch of numbers to more useful and easier to remember names.

OpenDNS has “Award-winning Parental Controls” that’s pretty easy to use, just choose your level of protection.

You can even block indiviadual websites with OpenDNS as well. So if you’re kids been bad punish them by blocking Facebook or whatever website they visit the most.

The best part about OpenDNS is its totally free. To see how to install and start using OpenDNS check out their video tutorial guide here http://www.opendns.com/support/videos
