“Is there a difference between expensive HDMI cables versus cheaper ones. Are the expensive HDMI cables needed to get the best picture quality?”
Most big name stores mark-up the price of HDMI cables to an unbelievable amount and they get away with this because the general public are not aware that there are far less cheaper options. Cheaper HDMI cables does not mean less HD quality, cheap HDMI cables are just as good as those price inflated Monster brand cables you see at your local retailer. Because HDMI is “digital” it either works or doesnt, there is no in between. The only place where more expensive HDMI cables might make sense is when you need really long run of cables, and by long run I mean over 50 feet.
I like to buy my HDMI cables from online vendors like Monoprice or Blue Jeans Cable. You can get a 6 ft HDMI 1.3a version cable for under 10 bucks. I would recommend getting a HDMI cable that’s version 1.3a which is the latest and greatest HDMI spec.
